What happened?

Last week, Leiden University cancelled a panel discussion organised by students on apartheid in Palestine and intersectional solidarity. Their reasoning? An unsupported claim about the panel moderator, Dina Zbeidy, not being “neutral” enough. We condemn the dismissive treatment of Dr Zbeidy, a well-respected anthropologist and lecturer at Hogeschool Leiden, and stand in solidarity with her and the student body. Neutrality should not be something to strive for when faced with grave injustices like the atrocities committed against the people of Palestine by Israeli Occupation Forces. We call on Leiden University to publicly apologize to Students for Palestine and Dr. Zbeidy and affirm their commitment to the academic freedom of all students.
